getting X 24 bit color?

getting X 24 bit color?

Post by Scott Savares » Wed, 27 Jun 2001 23:24:07

Does anybody out there know how to get X to display in 24 bit color? Right
now mine is locked at 8 bit. I have tried startx -bpp 24 but that doesn't
help, and there is a disply section in my XF86Config file for 24 bit.

If you would like to see my Config file, and other information feel free to
ask. I didn't want to make this to complicated just yet. Please Email me
with any information.

Thanks,
Scott Savarese

startx -- -bpp 24

Or, if you want it to be the default, set 'DefaultDepth 24' in the "Screen"
section of your XF86Config-4 file (assuming you're using XFree86 4.x).

Hey!
if you have probs running your graphic-card in a good mode, try a search
at goggle. It's better to read about problems than to detect them by
yourself...

If you are running XFree86 version 4, the terminology has changed.  Try:

  startx -- -depth 24

To make it permanent, use "DefaultDepth" in the XF86Config as the other
reply suggested.
