Suggest a book on X please...

Post by Ben Hallo » Thu, 28 Dec 1995 04:00:00

Can some people give their opinions on a good book that describes setting up,
customizing, using, and theory of X?
I need something that will tell me what different programs and utilities exist
for what options, etc...
I also need something that will tell me what programs exist for X.
I also ... troubleshooting X probs.

Any reccommendations are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

That's an awful lot for one book.  There's a good list of suggestions
in the X FAQ.  Alot of info is also available on the web.  My home page
has pointers to the FAQs and major web sites.

Try the X Windows Series by O'Reilly and Associates.  I own a number of
ORA books and I use all of them.  They also have a gopher site
gopher.ora.com and I _think_ they have an ftp site too... I assume it
would be ftp.ora.com .

2 books by Oreilly and friends from the 'the definitive guides to the X
Window system' range;

Vol 3 - X Window System User's Guide
Vol 8 - X Window System Administrators Guide

Happy reading... (thats +/- 1200 pages ;-))

1. Please suggest a GOOD book on bash.

Hello All,
I am looking for a good book on bash and was wondering
whether you could suggest one. The book must start with
the very basics and proceed to advanced point. Those
who have access to `The UNIX C Shell Field Guide' by
Gail Anderson and Paul Anderson might have an idea
exactly what I am looking for.

Sorry for the cross posting, and thanks in advance.

Reply via email will be appreciated.

Regards,

Masroor
