X11 and SPEA V7 Mirage P64 PCI

Hello,

I've the last November LINUX Version from S.U.S.E and want to configure X11.
I can start the S3 Xserver, but the X looks "unhealthy" (obviously some Graphic
Board paramters are wrong) and all the time I use the mouse, the root menu
appears w/o pressing any button.

Hardware:

Monitor: Triumph-Adler TA-726MXL, equal to Samsung

Graphicboard: Spea V7 Mirage P64 PCI, Bios Version 4.02h, 2MB Dram

The xf86config command found this board in its database and I followed the
instructions well.

Xserver messages:
Version 3.1.2 / X Window System

Configured drivers:

xinit:  connection to X server lost.

In the README.S3 file I read that I should use RAMDAC: SRAMDAC, but no success.

Can anybode help me?

Best regards

WRONG clockchip seting in your config file!!!

the S3 SDAC ramdac has it's own clock synthesizer "onchip".
just remove the ClockChip line in your config file, the server will
detect/configure this itself.

1. Are there X11-drivers for "Spea V7 Mirage P64 VLB"

Hi everybody,

a friend of mine just bought a PC planning to install und use Linux/X11
predominantly. He looked into the Hardware-HOWTO and chose components
memntioned there, but in the final installation, there were some hardware
problems with used graphics card (don't know which one).

The computer shop offered him as replacement a

 Spea V7 Mirage P64 VLB card with a S3 Vision 864 processor
(hope that's correct, he told me on the phone)

now he's unsure, if he can run Linux/X11 with this set. As he has no
net-access in any way, the task fell on me to check this out. I've
looked through the Hardware-HOWTO and through this newsgroup but
couldn't find any information for this piece of hardware (maybe I just
didn't see it, but that's life)

Any information or pointers to such welcome. PLEASE use email, as I'm
not usually reading this group.

Thanks in advance -
Peter
