Matrox Millenium

I have heard that the Matrox Millenium is not currently supported by the
latest X-server with the slackware distribution, but that there are
commercial versions of Linux which support it. Any information on this
would be appreciated.

Have a look at http://www.xinside.com/ and http://www.matrox.com.
AcceleratedX (from xinside) also ships with the new Caldera
(http://www.caldera.com). I use a Millenium 4Mb with AcceleratedX and am
extremely happy with it.
Seperately, the X server from Xinside is $99 I think (that's what I paid
about half a year ago), so you may as well buy Caldera for the same
money, and get a ton of goodies with it...

Kai.

TRUE STORY. I am running Caldera with my millenium (Gateway 2000 oem?) card.
It is also true that you get a lot with Caldera, but Caldera owners looking
for help from Xinside can save themselves a call and some hurt feelings
by NOT calling. Those people are VERY RUDE to even the politest inquiries
from Caldera owners.

I will not soon forget their snub when I BUY a commercial X !!

Well I guess I'm lucky there because i had my Xaccel before I bought
Caldera - so I do get support direct from them.
Unlucky for others I guess but they should be able to get support from
Caldera as it says in their booklet.

Kai.

Sorry, but this is completely correct. Caldera has OEMed Accelerated-X 1.2
and is doing support for this product by themselfts. So is BSDI. Your
point of contact is Caldera and not X Inside. If you buy Accelerated-X
directly from X Inside, then you'll get the prime support. Guess this
explains part of the price-difference ...

If it is an OEM is there anything missing at all?

I'm thinking about ordering it today. All I need is acceleratedX,
but if I can get the Caldera goodies with it for the same price...

Thomas, It's both true and fail to redirect requests for support to the
oem supplier, Caldera.  You might want to check into your support dept,
though; the poster of "TRUE STORY" sounded more like a complaint of
rudeness rather than non support.  Courtesy is an inexpensive commodity
that build markets, too.

I think Metrolinks X-server is the only other X-server there is?
But does it support the MGA Millenium?  As far as I can see it only
supports the older MGA cards.  Anyone got information on that?

MetroX works fine with the Matrox, but it is slower than Accelerated-X

If tou want to choose another X-server I suppose the only one there is
is Metrolinks, but that doesn't seem to support the MGA Millenium,
just the older MGA cards.  Anyone got information on that?

I am running the Metro X that came with Redhat 3.0.3 on my home machine with
a matrox MGA millenium and it works fine.
