Please help!

I am running Slackware Linux (3.2?) and all was working fine with Xfree 3.2A
until it expired. I downloaded the necessary binaries for Xfree 3.3 but I
cannot get it working. I thought 3.3 would be easier to setup since my ATI 3D
Pro Turbo is actually listed in the Card List. I run XF86Setup and select the
proper card then select one of the multisync monitor types (that worked fine
with 3.2A) but now I get only a very dark screen when X tries to start. I can
see/move the mouse cursor but there is no text on the screen, I have to
ctrl-alt-bkspace to abort X. I have tried as many combinations of
cards/monitors as I can imagine with no success. When I select the Generic VGA
card and bottom-of-the-line VGA monitor it still doesn't work.

So, I said the hell with 3.3 and restored my X11R6 directory with Xfree3.2A.
There is a parameter you can use to extend the expiry date by 30 days. So I
tried this but still get no display! Now I'm thinking that 3.3 may not be the
problem. I have a PPRO200 (Intel Venus mb) with 32mb RAM. The only things I
can think og that may have affected anything was upgrade my flash bios from
1.00.06.C1 to 1.00.12.C1 (I think these numbers are correct?) Anyways, I got
the newest BIOS from the Intel site and made sure it was the correct one for
my mb. Would this biod upgrade cause my X problem? I have also moved my ATI
card from one PCI slot to another. I can't see this affecting anything but I'm
lost for ideas. Please help!!!
