Cannot find a free VT !!!

Cannot find a free VT !!!

Post by Peter Galbrai » Wed, 03 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I just setup Slackware 3.0 (from the Nov95 InfoMagic CD) and
cannot setup XFree.  Even when I use my old X86Config file,
I get the error ``Cannot find a free VT'

Any ideas?

Thanks,

How many VT's ALT F1 - ALT Fn do you have defined ?  They are defined
in /etc/inittab with 'respawn agetty' lines.

You may need to lose one, so that there is a free one to start your
X server on, as X requires a free VT i.e. one which does not have
an agetty running on it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ian.
