Added 1 Mb video ram, now X not ok anymore.

I have X running with my et4000/w32p video card. I use the XF86_SVGA
driver, since I could not get XF86_W32 driver to work.

Then I added 1 Mb to my video card and edited the XFconfig to reflect
the change in the ammount of ram.

Now, when I move a window or the mouse some pixels on the screen are
turned to black. It is mainly to the left and to the right of the
window, that is moved. If I move it at lot, the black pixels form
vertical lines on the screen. The screen can be refreshed. Everything
is ok when i am running windows.

When I exit X-windows som of the characters are a little destroyed.
How much the characters are destroyed depends on how much the X-window
display are destroyed. Only when I reboot, the characters are
restored.

The video card is:
ET4000/W32p rev. b
2 Mb video ram
Ramdac: Chrontel CH8398. (I use the setting Ramdac "generic")

I dont know what to check. Any idea...?

The new driver XF86_W32E could solve the problem.

Try checking the chips. Sounds like you have unrelible memory.
You might be able to determine which chip it is by setting the xconfig to=
=20
1.5 megs. If that works fine you'll know that it is the other chip. That=20
is if if X will let you set it at 1.5 megs:) if it does not work try=20
swapping the two upgrade chips.
However the best thing to do is to take the chips to where you bought=20
them and have them test them.
Good luck.

1. 486 66 MHz, 16 MB RAM, FreeBSD, IDE 4x CD-R/RW ok?

Would there be any problems using an IDE 4x CD-R/RW on a
computer with a 486 66 MHz processor, 16 MB of memory, and
FreeBSD?  Mainly, I am concerned about problems with the
CD-R/RW drive not being fed data fast enough due to the
slowness of the computer, since IDE CD-R/RW drives are said
to require a significant amount of CPU usage.
