I recently tried to install the latest Infomagic Slackware Linux on a friend's
386-33 w/ ATI VGA Wonder (v4), NEC 3D Monitor, and ATI Busmouse (set to IRQ5).
When I use the monitor specs and dot clocks in the config files, startx just
hangs the system (Ctrl-Alt-Bspc, etc. don't do anything). X -probeonly output
looks OK though. By the way, I did rebuild the kernel for an inport bus mouse on IRQ 5.
I don't know whether the problem is the mouse or the video card. Can anyone
tell me what I can do track this problem down (or can give me some idea as to
what might be going on here)?
Please any e-mail responses to my address below. I'll post a summary if
there's sufficient interest. Thanks in advance.
