Transparent Xterm

Hi,

I have been looking at some of the web sites that have Window Managers.
Many of the Theme screen shots show xterms with transparent backgrounds.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I have also seen many of them using rxvt with  a Pixmap background.  I
have tried this with version 2.20 of rxvt but with no luck.  The man page
says that I can use a -pixmap option but when I do the rxvt reports any
error and  shows the option list, and pixmap is not one of the options.  The
is a long option called backgroundPixmap which I set in my .Xdefaults file.
but this did not work either.  I have also tried to recompile the program.
it looks looks like all the #defines for Pixmaps are set.

Any help out there?

Scott

You might be looking at  Eterms.   Those do transparency.

they "do" it by imitating the root window's pattern (none do genuine
transparency afaik - there's no pictures of overlapping eterm's showing
the conflicting text patterns, after all).

Largo has info up about this on his Window Maker Tips & Tricks page at

I downloaded rxvt-2.4.8 from the WindowMaker homepage. The package is called
wterm-3.tgz. I recompiled it, after editing the src/feature.h. After that,
everything you want is possible with rxvt.

Good luck

1. Transparent Xterms

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to
getting information on making my Xterms transparent in KDE.  Apparently
this is often done, but I am at a loss to find any documentation on the
subject.

Thanks
