startx in high resolution?

startx in high resolution?

Post by Wong Kok Chue » Sat, 01 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I have installed Linux 2.0 from Slackware 3.1 distributed by InfoMagic
(Sept 1996 release).
I couldn't startup X using SVGA driver and was forced to use VGA16 driver.
My graphics adaptor is Creative 3D Blaster PCI 4MB EDO RAM card.

Changing the Virtual and Mode fields in XF86Config did not help.
On running startx using fvwm95-2, the desktop space goes beyong my screen.
I have to move the cursor to the sides of the screen to see the full
desktop.

I would appreciate if someone could shed some light on this.

Thx in advance for anyone who could provide me with solutions.

1. SiS 6205 & high high resolution modes

I have installed the 3.1.2F beta release of the X server and I have managed
to configure it to run with my SiS 6205 video card using the
'chipset 86c201'(!) keyword -the server won't recognize chipset 86c205-, but
only in the 640x480 mode. I'm sure that I'm using the right card clock and the
correct frequencies for my monitor, but I'm still unable to get the 800x600
mode. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Does the 'G' release
fix this?
