Disable screen-saver and low-power standby (monitor black screen)

I want to disable Linux ability to turn on the power savings option,
where Linux turn off your screen saver in X, and just displays a
black screen in X.  Anyone know how to do this?

In the "Screen" section of your XF86Config file you set the option
"power_saver"and specify values for "BlankTime",  "SuspendTime" and
"OffTime". (check man pages whether your Xserver supports power saving;
see also the XF86Config man page about the various parameters like
BlankTime etc.). Here is a part of my XF86Config for the S3 Xserver:

Section "Screen"
     Driver     "accel"
     Device     "MiroVideo"
     Monitor    "Samsung"
     BlankTime 5
     SuspendTime 10
     OffTime 15
     Subsection  "Display"
         Depth      8
         Modes      "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
         ViewPort    0 0
         Option "power_saver"
     EndSubsection

     SubSection "Display"
         Depth      16
         Modes      "1024x768" "800x600"
         ViewPort    0 0
         Option "power_saver"
     EndSubsection
 EndSection

1. Screen savers - standby mode for 'green' monitors?

I have a Gateway 2k machine with an ATI Mach64 card and a Gateway (MAG)
15" monitor that support VESA power management things.  Under Windows,
the driver software can put the monitor in a standby state to reduce power
consumption rather than just blanking the screen.  If you leave the machine
sit for a while longer, it actually shuts off the gun (or so it says in
the book).

Is there any way this kind of screen-saving can be supported under Linux
(with _and_ without X-windows)?  If nobody has done this or thought about
doing it, can anyone give me any clues about how to proceed?  Anyone have
Mach64 programming specs?

Please email to me and I'll post a summary.
