xdm in 32bpp mode?

xdm in 32bpp mode?

Post by Kevin Whit » Thu, 04 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I have X running in 32bpp mode, and have started playing around with xdm
to get a graphical login screen when I boot up.  But I have not been
able to figure out how to pass the "-- -bpp 32" to xdm to make it work.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin

Put this entry in your  Xservers  file (/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers in RedHat)

:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -bpp 32

It works for me.

Cheers,
peter.

Yes,
Set your default color depth in /etc/X11/XF86Config

1. 16/24/32bpp with xdm

I can't seem to figure out how to run X with a higher bit depth than 8bpp
(this was the default when I installed X). In case it's relevant, I am
running kernel 1.2.13, XFree 3.1.2, and I have a #9FX Motion 771. Response
via email would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave
