1024x768 Resolution Problem

1024x768 Resolution Problem

Post by Edward James Fr » Tue, 21 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hi -

I'm having a problem running XFree86 3.2 at 1024x768 resolution.

Everything fits on the screen at 1280x1024 and is viewable but when
I comment out 1280x1024 modeline in my /etc/X86Config file to run at
1024x768 and part of the screen is lost. Specifically the bottom tool bar in
fvwm95 is gone to an unviewable portion of the display.  I am able to
move the mouse down an grab the tool bar and move it to the top of the
screen inorder to use it.

Any suggestions on how to make the 1024x768 resolution completely
fit on the viewable part of my 17" NEC Display???

Thanks

1024x768 Resolution Problem

I sounds like you are still running at 1280x1024 virtual resolution.
Check the XF86Config file and set the virtual same as the screen size.
BTW, setting 1024x768 as the first selection in the modes line of
the screen section of the XF86Config file would be a better way of
starting in 1024x768 rather than commenting out the modeline.

1024x768 Resolution Problem

For me it sounds more like the case that his applications
are started with the option:

  -geometry 280x324+1000+700        (example of course)

In stead of:

  -geometry 280x324-0-0

Couldn't that be the reason for the trouble???

1. 1024x768 resolution problems (Packard Bell monitor).

Hey ho.

  I have a Packard Bell 14" monitor (model RC1020) and a Diamond
Stealth 2001 Graphics card.  I selected one of the generic SVGA
monitor selections from XF86Setup and tried to get 1024x768 mode by
using

   Modeline  "1024x768"   44.90 1024 1048 1208 1264 768 776 784 817
interlace

X starts up peachy in 1024x768 mode, but the characters have a slight
flicker to them.  I suspect that this has to do with my monitor
settings.  Does anyone else out there have a Packard Bell monitor?  I
can't find the documentation on mine, so I'd appreciate a looksee at
your XF86Config file, pretty please.

On the other hand, if my diagnosis is butt-wrong, please let me know
that, too!

Thanks
Jesse
