Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10 and RH5.1

Post by Petar Karafezo » Sun, 30 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Hello there!

I am having this problem since I upgraded from RH5.0 to Rh5.1. In fact,
what I did was a clean installation of RH5.1. When I had RH5.0 (it comes
with gs v3.33) I just installed ghostscript-5.10.*.rpm and I was
perfect. Now when I try to rpm -Uvh ghostscript-5.10.i386.rpm and I get
a missing libpng.so.0 error. I did check in /usr/lib ..and indeed there
is not libpng.so.0, but libpng.so.2 ... However, when i checked the
content of libpng-1.0.2-1.i386.rpm, which was installed with RH5.1 ..i
didn't find libpng.so.0 ...

Any clues ?? I need it badly, because i happen to have Epson Stylus
Color ..and its driver  *requres* gs > 3.53 or something.

Any help will be appreciated!

: Hello there!

: I am having this problem since I upgraded from RH5.0 to Rh5.1. In fact,

: with gs v3.33) I just installed ghostscript-5.10.*.rpm and I was

: content of libpng-1.0.2-1.i386.rpm, which was installed with RH5.1 ..i
: didn't find libpng.so.0 ...

Strange!
when I do ldd I get:
ldd /usr/bin/gs
 libXt.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6.0
 libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6.0
 libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6.3
 libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6.3
 libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6.1
 libm.so.5 => /lib/libm.so.5.0.9
 libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5.4.46

As you can see no libpng needed, at least not by gs.
But maybe RH5.1 has a different setup?

You might try to link libpng.so.0 to libpng.so.2 and see if that helps
Or have a look in /etc/ld.config to see if you'v got the lib paths right
and if you do run ldconfig again to make sure the database is up to date.

The most recent (ghostscript-5.10-6) package should be used.  Also,
there is a patch available from

http://www.typhoon.dircon.co.uk/html/ghostscript.html

1. Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10 and Epson Stylus Color

Since I have upgraded from gs3.x to gs5.10, I can't print
to my Epson Stylus Color anymore (driver: stcolor):
The problem is the file stcolor.ps in the ghostscript
directory, that was preloaded to the postscript files
then passed to gs for printing (worked in 3.x):
'gs -sDEVICE=stcolor -q -many options /usr/lib/gs5.10/stcolor.ps -'
and the ps files to be printed are passed via stdin (lpfilter-
script). Gs5.10 says: stcolor.ps: Interpreted not by Aladdin
Ghostscript.
Is there a newer stcolor.ps file around ?
