Problem description:

 X starts fine in the mode "1024x768i" but when using the escape
sequence Ctrl+Alt+Fn to jump to a virtual console and back to
X, one only sees a band isntead of a full screen. Graphically

        Ar the beginning               after returning.

All the functionality seems to be there, just the screen seems comprtessed.

Also the same effect appears when using  Ctrl+Alt+KpdPlus to change from
one mode to another.

The obvious thind is the reference to an interlaced mode.Anthing else?

Sure, no problem.  I have the same card, and had the same problem.  
Herald Koenig told me how to fix it.  Look in your (his) monitor hand
book and find out what hsync/vsync settings the monitor has for
1024x768.  Mine (for example) were +hsync +vsync.  So, look below for the
line that he would change.

                                        This is what solved my problem.  
Make sure that he uses the settings required for his monitor.  That shold
fix his problem, too.  Good luck,
