Samsung SyncMaster 17GLS and #9 64GXE pro card

Post by Ming Y Hua » Wed, 31 May 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

Does anyone have experience using Samsung SyncMaster 17GLS monitor
with Xfree86 3.1.1?  How is the monitor?  I plan to buy one but have
no any idea about this monitor?

I also try to buy a PCI #9 64GXE pro card.  The dealer told me that
there are two versions of this card, one is #9 64GXE pro and another
is #9 64GXE pro 1600, the #9 64GXE pro 1600 costs about $100 higher.
What I want to know is what the difference is between these two cards?

Thanks!

The 1600 supports higher resolutions (1600x1200).  Keep in mind that most
monitors are incapable of supporting this kind of resolution.

The SyncMaster 17GLs is great! It does 85Hz at 1024x768 and 75Hz at 1280x1024!!
These values were achieved with an ATI Mach32 2MB PCI card. I have the #9GXE64 Pro PCI at home and this baby just flies... Since it can do a dotclock of 135 as the ATI did in the test, I think you can achieve the same great eye-saveing
results with that card.

Ciao,

Andreas

Hi all, I am thinking of upgrading my CL5424 to an Orchid mentioned above.

Has anyone else used these cards, is it easy to get X to run with them?

I am going to get a 2Mb card, will I be able to get 16 or 32 bpp modes with this,
I cant get them at present with my Cirrus 1Mb card.

Also, does anyone know what the difference is between these 2 cards? And what X-server
do I use with them, SVGA or S3???

Many thanks,

Charles Gamble.

Both cards work fine.

I would personaly go for the Kelvin. The kelvin uses the standard SVGA driver
while the Farenhight probably uses the S3 server.

16 and 32 bpp modes work fine on the kelvin. I will email you my XF86Config
file so you can see how to set it up if you get one.

I have been using SyncMaster 15GLS for a year now. It is great!
I don't know about 17', I assume they are of the same quality as 15'.
SamSung is a very reputable company.

Hmmm. I think I've got some other problem then.

I've just got an Orchid Fahrenheit Pro64 (4M) (based on a 964) on a
100Mhz Pentium PCI system. All I get when I do an xinit is:

...

Quote:> (--) S3: Unknown S3 chipset: chip_id = 0xd0
> *** None of the configured devices was detected.*** (sic)
> no screens found

Have I got an old setup ?

Can I get this working or would I be better off with a Diamond Stealth 64
??? (14 days return - 10 days left!).

Hi all,

Does anyone out there have some good monitor timings for the aforementioned model?  Also, does anyone have a list of the clocks that the Diamond Stealth 64 PCI supports?  And one last question,  should I just use s3_generic as the chip set in my card definition in the XF86Config file?
