320x200 mode - how?

320x200 mode - how?

Post by Paul Tayl » Fri, 14 Jun 1996 04:00:00

How can I get a 320x200 X mode (to play xquake)? I read the docs and I
can't see how to do it. Using the lowest dot clock on my card
(25.2MHz) it needs a screen refresh of 300Hz - which of course the
monitor can't support. Please mail me if you can help. Thanks.

1. XFree86 Always in 320x200 Mode

Ok, This will probably sound very basic to all of you, but I am new in
this area, and I need help...  Badly.
After having struggled with XFree86 for hours, I still cannot get it to
run in any resolution other than 320x200.  It always tells me that it is
using the built in mode of 320x200.  I have tried editing the XF86Config
file, and I think that I have all the settings for default SVGA in
640x480x256 Ok.  But, it will still put me in 320x200 (Grrrr!).
        I have a pentium 200 and a matrox millenium card with 4Mb.  I am
running Red Hat Linux 3.0.3 with XFree86 version 3.1.2.  This is pretty
old software (especially since XFree86 v3.3 is available since Thursday
morning), but I got it from a book, on a CD.
I would greatly appreciate any help.  Thanks a lot.
