Input Output error .X0-lock

Post by O. Delcour » Wed, 22 Aug 2001 01:01:17

I've the following problem when starting X.

Error message:
Can't read from .X0-lock file.  Input - Output error.

I've Redhat 7.1 with 2.4.9 kernel and XFree 4.1.0.

(At Linux startup, I see the following message:
rm: cannot remove .X0-lock; input-output error....)

(n.b. rm -fr .X0-lock gives the same error message...)

O.D.  Thanks a lot.

what says ls -l .X0-lock ?
Where is this file ? at your home-directory ?

Please also post the output before, perhaps it helps
to solve your problem ...

Thanks.  The following solves my problem:

# cd /tmp
# rm -rf .X* .ICE*

1. "Can't read lock file /tmp/.X0-lock"

When I type "startx" I get this error message:

Fatal server error:
Can't read lock file /tmp/.X0-lock

What is wrong? If I touch /tmp/.X0-lock, I get X up and running, but after I
quit, the file disappears. Same thing happens regardless if I'm the root or
a normal user.

I'm using Slackware 3.0.

Please e-mail any responses.

Thank you!
