diamond stealth 3d 2000 + xfree 3.3.2 screen corruption

well, the topic pretty much says it all. when I exit X(using the svga
server), the text mode screen gets corrupted. any ideas on what is causing
this and/or how to fix it?

No clue.  I have the same card, and the same server, but no screen
corruption.  Maybe if you showed me your XF86Cionfig file I would see
something -- maybe not, but maybe.  What resolution/depth are you using?  What
monitor?

I think the command you want to try is setfont.  I could be wrong
though.  I used to have this problem, but it stopped happening for
reasons unknown.

Same problem here on a stealth-3d-2000-pro card which i bought with 4M ram.
The problem can be partially resolved by running SVGATextMode to restore a
textmode when you leave X.  I also notice screen corruption when running in
SVGATextMode's 100x37x9 mode.

My only idea so far abt this is that it *may* be a problem with RAM speed.
Diamond's page on the card seems to say that they do special testing on add-on
vmem they sell, to make sure it will run with the card.  It may be that the
retailer who sold the card (at a very low price) added off-the-shelf memory
to it which was not up-to-speed.

On the other hand, I *did* specify the Option "slow_edo_ram" in XF86Config,
and that did *not* help.

I'll try sometime to unplug the extra 2M and see if that resolves the corruption
problem.

1. Diamond Stealth 3d 2000 Pro, and the Diamond Stealth 3d 3000, in Xfree86

If your having problems with the Diamond Stealth 3d 2000 Pro, and the
Diamond Stealth 3d 3000, in Xfree86, please read.

It's the "pro" part of you Stealth 3d 2000 that is giving you the
problem. It's designed for video in addition to regular display. This is
also a problem with many of the Stealth 3d 3000 cards(but not all). The
fix is to cut it back to 16bpp. You see, at 24bpp and 32bpp, the Stealth
3000 needs a special driver that handles the mpeg/avi video acceleration
features of these cards. But not at 16bpp.

Sometimes you can get away with running the Diamond Stealth 3d 2000 pro,
and the Diamond Stealth 3d 3000 at 24bpp and 32bpp. But chances are
you'll get the following problems:

XF_s3V server: lockups when user exits window manager, screen turns neon
lime green or red(other colors also reported, but these two are the most
common). However, this server works fine at 16bpp.

XF_SVGA server: works great, but acceleration at 24bpp or 32 bpp is not
complete!!!!! Boot up Netscape and you will see what I mean. The buttons
on Navigator will be in black&white.

These problems do not effect the Stealth 3d 2000 "classic", just the
Stealth 3d 2000 Pro and the Stealth 3d 3000 series cards.
