: Hello,

: Running X3.1.1 and Mosaic I get the error "Can't find libXm.so.1"

Your Motif isn't linked statically.
Either get the Motif - libary or get a statically linked Mosaic
I don't think you have started Mosaic on XFree86 2.X.

Your Mosaic is compiled with _shared_ Motif-libraries and maybe
you don't have Motif in your own system. You should get
_dynamically_ linked Mosaic.

Oops... I think you meant _statically_.

You can get a version of Mosaic with a statically linked libXm at:

ftp://ftp.uni-tuebingen.de/pub/WWW/Mosaic-TueV/*

BTW, is there a static Mosaic 2.5 out there?  I have 2.4.2 from
Tuebingen, but it crashes whenever I try to paste to it.  They have a
binary at NCSA's site with the word "static" in its filename, but it
is not statically linked.

Here we go again.  That Mosaic was built with XFree-2.1/Motif-1.2, I bet, and as
such, even static, it needs the nls directory that was removed from R6.
I put a copy on sunsite, in ..X11/misc.

There are other Mosaic's out there statically linked.  Look through sunsite
and tsx-11.  Someone from Tuebingen (I thinkk) put up a lot of versions,
with various configurations.  Some were R6/Motif-2.0, so would not need this
fix.

Nope. I run an old XFree2.11 server and it complains here, too.

I'm not too sure if this is correct but the problem that you get MIGHT
be caused by Motif. Supposedly, you need the nls stuff (it comes with
Netscape 1.1) with the C and nls.dir files. This might correct the problem (at
least it does for Netscape...haven't tried it with Mosaic).

I think that should be _statically_ linked.

I just downloaded Mosaic 2.6b3 from the standard place
(ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu:/Web/Mosaic/Unix/binaries/2.6b/Mosaic-linux-2.6b3.Z)
and it works great for me.  The Motif library was statically linked,
but lib{Xt,X11,c} are dynamically linked.

1. Mosaic: can't find library 'libXm.so.1'

I try to install Mosaic 2.4 (Mosaic-2.4.linux.tar.gz) binaries on Slackware 2 and
connect to the Internet means PPP.

Result:

% Mosaic
Mosaic: can't find library 'libXm.so.1'

It is possible to copy Motif libraries?

Thanks

Ciao
