Can anyone help?, when I try to log-out of x-windows (RH6.0 on intel)
nothing happens and I end up having to reboot the machine!

Thanks

What does your screen look like when you are in X?  Do you have xterm
windows, colored background?  I'm really asking what window manager you
are in if any.

Did you try left clicking on the desktop.  There should be some kind of
little rectangle that comes up with things to choose from.

A better thing to do than reboot is to do Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.  That
should take you back to bash.

Does the shortcut CTRL+ALT+F1 (return to console) work ?

Hi Andy,

I had a similar problem, but in my case I could at leart 'jump' to
the text
terminal from where I started X, and pressed Control+C to close X.
If you have noticed that it takes a lot for X to load in your
computer,
and if you see at the text terminal messages saying something about
'Authentication error', I may help you, because I have been recently
given a soluiton for this.

By the way, in case you are Linux newby, you can use Control+Alt+F1 and
Control+Alt+F7 to switch between the text terminal and the X terminal.

Good luck!

Aitor

Thanks for all your help, CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE got me out of X. Problem seems
to have gone away now. I was struggling to configure my dial-up to ISP at
the time, logged on as root, it seems unlikely but perhaps I messed with one
too many configuration files?

Confused - you will be.

Several Points...
1.  Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] are virtual terminals, in runlevels 2 and 3, use
Alt+F[1-6] to switch
2.  The system boots into X Windows because of the initdefault line in
/etc/inittab.  Check the beginning of the file for a brief into
(redundant?) to runlevels.  Use the command 'telinit X' to change
runlevels where X is the runlevel to go to.
3.  change the line "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:" if you
want to have the system boot to a console instead of booting to X.

Try CTRL-ALT-BackSpace.
It should send u to th X login page.
If u want to reboot from there, hit ALT-[F1..F6] and CTRL-ALT-DEL.
This should make a clean reboot.

1. Can apache/stronghold log when a user 'click outs' of your site?

If I have a link to a URL on another server, can I log when a user
clicks this link? (sort of like HTTP_REFERRER, but the inverse)

Example:

My site is www.A.com and I have a link to www.B.com along with
www.C.com, www.D.com, etc... I want to know if a user clicks on any of
these links.

Is this possible?

Thanks greatly,
Chuck
