X and Chips & Tech display adaptor?

X and Chips & Tech display adaptor?

Post by Scott Hassa » Tue, 22 Aug 1995 04:00:00

I have a Chips & Tech 65545 display adaptor and cannot seem to get it to
display in 1024x768x256 mode in X.

Has anyone been successful with this card?

Thanks,

Scott

The best I've done with XFree86 3.1.2 (or 3.1.1) is 800x600x256. This
on a NEC Versa P laptop with an 800x600 active matrix LCD, with
internal, external, or both. The CT65545 support is rudimentary in
XFree86, I feel rather fortunate to get that much. See

for more information. If anyone has ever gotten a CT65545 to do
better than 800x600x256, please let me know.

1. Chips & Tech 65550 Grapics Chip!

I'm using a Panasonic CF-25 laptop which uses the Chips and Technologies
65550 Video chip.  The laptop is running SCO Openserver 5.0.2.
Currently I have it set up to use the IBM VGA driver; however, this
limits me to 640x480 at 16 colors.  SCO supports (has a driver for) the
Chips 65550 (I know this because the driver is labeled as the 655x0 in
the scoadmin program and Chips verifies that this is the driver for that
chip set).  The problem is that when I try to use this driver I get
garbage on my screen.  It doesn't work in layman terms.  Help!  I use
Linux primarily and my experience with XFree86 tells me that this is a
problem related to the monitor's refresh rate.

Thanks,

Tom Moulton
