setting permissions question

setting permissions question

Post by news.earthlink.ne » Fri, 25 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I set the following permission to execute .Xclients in the /root and /usr/
dir.

chmod 755 .Xclients

However I need to do this everytime I start a session.  This happens any
time I use the chmod command.  It works fine for the current session.  Then
when I shutdown and restart I have to set these permissions again.

How can I set a permanent permission?

Thanks in advance,
jp

1. Permissions question - set-user-id

Octal 2770 does not work on Solaris:

SunOS 5.5.1 (root /tmp) 352>mkdir ilya
SunOS 5.5.1 (root /tmp) 353>chmod 2770 ilya
SunOS 5.5.1 pollux (root /tmp) 355>ll | grep ilya
drwxrwx---   2 root     other         69 Nov 30 09:16 ilya
SunOS 5.5.1 pollux (root /tmp) 356>

What I am looking for is drwxdrs--- which this does not set.
However it works on HP-UX 11.0.
