I've got MGA Impression Plus videocard and can start only VGA16
X-Server (16 colors -- oh-no !).  I have spent three days trying
a lot of variants in XF86Config but could not start SVGA X-Server.

It (SVGA XServer) starts only with 320x200 resulution.  According
to "man XF86_SVGA" it means that server thinks that this is VGA
but not SVGA card.

I wouldn't like to use another type of videocard because I like
my ImpPlus very much :-)

Is it possible to use SVGA mode for Matrox Impression Plus card ?
Have anyone done it ?  (I do not mean XI Graphics software cause
I can't purchase it from Russia.)

  No that's the correct behavior.  SVGA isn't a standard like VGA.
Accessing more than 64K of video memory depends requires specific
knowledge about that hardware.  What you've gotten is all you're
expected to get out the the VGA16 and SVGA servers. XFree86
does not support the Impression since programming info is not
available.
