netscape won't start from Xwindow or command prompt

Post by Quic » Mon, 22 Feb 1999 04:00:00

i'm new to this, so please be kind. installed RedHat 5.1. installed both
navigator and communicator (RPM). got the Xwindow running well, or at least
in bpp 8 (dose not want to go to bpp 16 but i got some good leads from the
ng tonight and will try them first)

the problem is that when i click the netscape button in the start menu,
there is a little drive activity and then nothing. starting from the command
prompt (root)(typing netscape) i get the following......

/usr/lib/netscape/netscape-communicator: error in loading shared libraries
/usr/lib/libBrokenLocale.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or
directory.

i have loaded all three (3) packages from the RedHat disk for netscape.
navigator, communicator, and the shared packages.

the only way i can get netscape to load up and run is with xfm and double
clicking on navigator or communicator.

I have figured out a lot of stuff this last week, a LOT of reading and have
made good headway, but this one has me stumped!

hope someone can help.

Mark

Is the file there?
/usr/lib/libBroken... is a link to ../../libBroken....so.1 which
is a link
to libBroken....2.0.7.so.
If the complaint is that its not there then a link may be broken
or the file not
really there.
d
Note these are the links for RH 5.2 and yours may be different
but the file should
exist somewhere.  The perms were -rw-r--r---.
