For X version 4.0.x it is: DefaultDepth 16
Anita
DefaultColorDepth 16
if you're running XFree86 3.3.6, and
DefaultDepth 16
if you're running XFree86 4.0.x.
The startup resolution is the FIRST resolution in the Modes list for the
current depth. For example, given this configuration for X 4.0.2:
DefaultDepth 16
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "800x600" "1024x768"
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600"
EndSubsection
By default, X will come up at 1024x768, 16-bit, and you can switch to
800x600 by using Ctrl-Alt-Plus or Minus. But if you start it like this:
startx -- -depth 8
it will come up 800x600, 8-bit.

When I run JDS (and I guess CDE too, but not verified), the resolution
on my hardware/software (Ultra 80. Creator 3D, Solaris 10 update 1) goes
to 1280x1024 following a reboot. So I normally have to log in as root,
# fbconifg -res 1600x1200x60 now
Is there a way I can force this to always use that resolution at
startup, rather than me having to switch it manually? I'm sure a startup
script could do it, but there must be a better way.
