X with Voodoo Banshee problem :'(

Post by Pierrick Russei » Tue, 16 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hello everybody,

I have a big problem running X Window with a Voodoo Banshee AGP (monitor is
IIYAMA A102GT - Vision Master Pro 502). My current distribution is Mandrake
6.1 Helios (not Cassini).

So, when i start the X server (in runlevel 3 lauching the startx script),
randomly my monitor go in power saving mode (one time off two). I'm trying
to poweroff and poweron my monitor but it go always in power saving mode
unless i reboot the system. Linux is always ok (i can make a telnet from
another computer) but it is unusable. The always solution is to press
Ctrl-Alt-F1 and press Ctrl-C to terminate X Window, then press Ctrl-Alt-Del
(trapped by inittab) to shutdown properly Linux.

Now it's time to try again...

Anyone have the same problem ?

Sincerely,
Pierrick

1. SuSE Linux 6.2 - Voodoo Banshee Problem

I have been trying to configure XFree86 in SuSE Linux 6.2 for use with my
Generic
Banshee card. This, I believe, is built into the SVGA server.

I can configure it fine, however when starting X, there is a moving "noise"
down the left third of the screen. There is also more "noise" caused by
moving or resizing windows.

It's not a problem with the card, since I can install it fine in Redhat 6
with the
additional rpm's available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
