Xdm error - HELP

Post by fran » Sun, 28 May 1995 04:00:00

Hi, Linuxers:

I have my X windows running after booting.  But I always get a message like
this:  Xdm error (pid 89): Can't lock pid file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xdm.pid
another xdm is running (pid 87)
It doesn't cause any problems actually, the xdm will still run after this
message.  What bothers me it why I have this problem?  Anyone can give me
some suggestions?  Please e-mail me.  Many thanks in advance.

1. Linux/X/xdm: help with error

A hand would be greatly appreciated...

I have Linux 1.2.13 and X 3.1 [newest Slackware] running.
I want to run xdm.  But running xdm gives me the following
errors in the xdm-errors file:

xdm error(pid 95): Hung in XOpenDisplay(:0), aborting
xdm error(pid 95): server open failed for :0, giving up
xdm error(pid 91): Display :0 cannot be opened

I have X Sys. Adm. vol8. [O'Reilly]  and I have checked all
my config files.  As far as I can tell they seem ok...
But something's wrong else I wouldn't be here...

Any help would be great!
