STB Velocity 128 (RIVA128) doesn't work in Xfree 3.3.3

Post by Kevin Dal » Mon, 14 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Has anyone had trouble with "Hardware initialization errors" with the
STB Velocity 128 (or other RIVA128 based cards)?  I have re-run
XF86Setup several times, and get "Cannot set dot clock due to hardware
initialization failure" messages.

Only a few modes work in 3.3.3.

It worked fine in 3.3.2.3, which I have gone back to.  Any suggestions?
Supposedly the RIVA128 is better in 3.3.3, so I'd like to be able to
upgrade, but even my old mode (1024x768 16bpp) does not work in 3.3.3

Thanks,

kjd

Hmm... I had an stb128zx before I got a new TNT... I didn't have problems
with 3.3.3, but if I remember correctly, you don't use a dotclock setting
for the stb... also, don't use probing... If you have  a standard 128,
just set your mem to 4
megs and the chipset as Riva128, with clocks unselected... or,
alternatively, you could use f86config to make your config file...  hope
that helps a bit.

1. STB Velocity 128 AGP + XFree 3.3.2

Guess I have to admit it: I get no further when trying to install my STB
Velocity 128 under XFree 3.3.2.

The whole machine (a Dell Dimension XPS333, Pentium II etc) locks up,
totally, after I run XF86Setup. Guess it has sth to do with the stuff
I've read about devices sharing IRQ's or sth like that. Problem is I
cannot see that this is the case (oh, btw, I run RH 5.0).

Anyway, you people -- I know you're out there somewhere -- who have
gotten this card to work, would it be possible for you to publish your
XF86 setup/config files here in this group? Would be interesting to see
and compare 'em to my own.

And if you would mail 'em to me, I'd be soo happy, you know ;-)

All tips to get this bird flying would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.
