RGB color parameters

Post by Michael Vaclav Stembe » Fri, 19 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I heard there was a way to specify color parameters to an X
app on the command line directly.  Example: xterm -fg red
should be something like xterm -fg #ff0000
This however does not work.  Does anybody know the correct
syntax?
Thanx,
Mike

You may need to quote the '#'.  Korn shell-based shells will
interpret the '#' character as the beginning of a comment and will
ignore the rest of the line.  Try

xterm -fg '#ff0000'

to prevent the shell from trying to interpret it.

1. rgb.txt and colors, 16 and 32 bit colornames?

I'm in over my head here, but I havent seen any modifications to rgb.txt, or
any other goings on that suggest whether or how enhanced color names might
be used in emacs.  list-colors-display in emacs 20.2 seems to list the same
colors, whether I use 8 bit or 16 bit display.

Can anyone clue me in?  Am I making any sense?
