Configuring X from Slackware 3.0 on a 'Gateway 2000'

Hi, Linux friends:

I am having a problem configuring X from Slackware 3.0 .  I have a
'Gateway 2000  P5-120'. My problem is X only works in mode 320x200,
no matter what mode I set in XF86Config file.

My computer has a 'Gateway 2000 PCI Video Card' with 'STB Nitro 1MB
64-bit Graphics Accelerator'. Here is the specs(from the user's guide)

Memory             1MB high-speed DRAM

Performance        Up to 24.0 Million WINMARKS IN 1024x768, 256 colors
                   at 75Hz on a P5-133 running Winbench 96

Bus                32-bit PCI local bus; 64-bit acceleration

Accelerator        Cirrus Logic 5446 (64-bit)

Resolution,Color depth, Vertical refresh
1024x768, up to 75Hz refresh, up to 256 colors
800x600, up to 75Hz refresh, up to 65k colors
                   640x480, up to 75Hz refresh,up to 16.7 million colors

Connector          Standard 15-pin video

Software platform support
                   DOS, Windows, OS/2

Drivers            Windows, AutoCAD, Windows NT, Windows 95, OS/2

Monitor Support    Standard VGA 640x480 analog monitors or better

I can not find this card in xf86config's video card database. I tried
all 'STB's,'Cirrus's and some others. All of them work only in mode
320x200. Is this card too 'new' to be supported? Anyone who knows how
to get X work in better modes please help me. Thank a million!

To switch modes in X, press Ctrl+Alt+Keypad ( plus sign "+" ) sign.
This cycles through the mode supported my your display card.

To start X with a specific mode, go to the screen section of the
XF86config file and alter the mode entry starting with the mode you

1. Can't install Slackware in a Gateway 2000 P5-PCI

I have a problem trying to install Linux (Slackware) in a
Gateway 2000 Pentiun-60Mhz PCI. After the boot from the flop
fdisk doesn't recoginise the IDE interface, it just say it can't
read /dev/hda. The computer works ok with dos-windows. During
boot it shows the controler number: WDC AC2540H
   and Linux reports:
hd.c: ST-506 interface disk with more than 16 heads detected, probably
due to non-standard sector translation. Giving up
   (disk 0: Cy:524, sect=32, head=63)

On the bios setup it can be read:
   Cyl: 1048 head 16 sect 63

   The hard disk has 520Meg
Does anyone has any ideia of what is happening?
Another thing is the Bogomips it shows 23.96 I have another
   machine (486 66Mhz 16Meg) that shows 33 Bogomips. I thought the Pentium
should be the same or a bit more.

Thanks in advance, and please send any answer by e-mail.
