S3 864 Vision PCI and X

S3 864 Vision PCI and X

Post by Gary Lille » Fri, 31 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I have a poblem that will not allow me to run X at all.  i am getting a
"no such device" error and a "mouse is busy" error on my PS2 Mouse.  If
I do a "dmesg" it tells me that I have an unrecognised PCI device and if
I look in proc/pci it lists the card as an old VGA device.  It also asks
me to mail somewhere but I do not have this facility at home.

Can anybody help me please ???  :-)

Well, I think PCI devices are not concerned with that errors.
Considerable situations are,
1. kernel doesn't recognize your PS/2 mouse.
re-configure kernel and re-make kernel with a option "PS/2 mouse
   support"

2. Is there /dev/psaux or /dev/mouse?

S3 864 Vision PCI and X

I have an S3 864 PCI graphics card with 2MB DRAM and an S3 SDAC running
Xwindows on RedHat4.  My plug-and-play motherboard also detects my graphics
card as an unknown PCI device but it still works great under X.  I did have
some difficulty with my mouse at first and I also thought it was my
graphics card, but it turned out to be a conflict with gpm or something
related to the port used by my mouse.  I wasn't sure how to fix that but I
went around the problem by moving my mouse to COM2 and modem to COM1 and
reinstalling RH4.  It's worked fine ever since.

Hope that's helpful,

1. S3 Incorporated S3 Vision 864 and IBM 14V Monitor

I have an IBM 14V monitor and an S3 864 chip and I am not satisfied with
the XF86Config that I have since I do not have 800x600.  If you can send
me the config or give me info, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
