HP/Sun 20" trinitron monitor modeline??

Post by David Wittenbe » Sat, 20 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I'm trying to get a monitor described as
Sun 20" Trinitron Color Display by Hewlett-Packard
to work with a Cirrus Logic GD 5480 chip set.  The vendor claims it
should work at 1280x1024 at 71.8 Hz, a hsync of 65-80 kHz, and a vsync
of 70-75 Hz.

When I plug this into XF86config, I get almost horizontal lines about
1.5" apart scrolling vertically up the screen.

The card is listed as supported, and XF86config finds it using the SVGA
driver.

The vendor claims this works under linux, but can't give me the
Monitor modeline numbers, saying everybody just finds what works.
I've played with the DotClock values, and changing them does change
the pattern on the screen, but I haven't found any value that makes
the lines stop scrolling.

I'm running XFree86 Version 3.3.3.1
(protocol Version11, revision 0, vendor release 6300)
Release Date January 4, 1999

OS: Linux 2.2.0-pre5-ac1 i686

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

HP/Sun 20" trinitron monitor modeline??

Is it HP/Sun or did you mean to say HP/Sony ?
I'm using an HP A2094A fixed-sync with a Mirage Z-128 card.
I'll send you my XF86Config if you want.
I think I saw it listed somewhere as 70 Hz, but I find it works okay up
to about 90Hz.
One weird thing - I sent the first Mirage back for warranty replacement
and when I ever since I got the replacement I've got two strange
annoyances that weren't there before:
(1) I have to leave the VSync BNC UNplugged or else it will roll
vertically.
(2) I have to run xscreensaver or else the screen will change to a
checkered pattern after a few minutes (happens under ms-win too.)
