virtual desktop size for different resolution

virtual desktop size for different resolution

Post by Bill Jone » Sun, 07 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Using xvidtune, I got the desktop size exactly right for 1280x1024 for my
monitor.  I did the same thing for 1024x768, but when I switch between the
two resolutions in X using CTRL-ALT-+, I can't get the 1024x768 resolution
to just fill the display - I have to scroll to see the entire page.  I've
searched man pages for fvwm2 and XF86Config, and can't seem to find what
will allow me to change between those two resolutions and not have to scroll
to see the entire 1024x768 desktop.  Anyone give me hint on what to try?

Virtual desktop sizes are set in XF86Config.  You can set the default
desktop sizes like this:

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth       16
        Modes       "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
        ViewPort    0 0
        Virtual     1280 1024
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth       24
        Modes        "800x600" "640x480" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
        ViewPort    0 0
        Virtual     1280 1024
    EndSubsection
