Find widget id without having parent id????

Post by sta.. » Fri, 06 Apr 2001 11:24:48

We are trying to replay some X-events we have logged. The logging
includes the full widget name.
The replay happens from another client process.

We tried using :

rootWindow = RootWindow(display, screenNo);
parentWidget = XtWindowToWidget(display, rootWindow);
myWidget = XtNameToWidget(parentWidget, fullWidgetName);

The second call, i.e. XtWindowToWidget, gives NULL back, i.e.
probably meaning that the root window does not have a widget id.

So we seem to be heading down the wrong track.

We do not have the parent widget belonging to the same hierarchy
as the one we are looking for.

Is there a way to get the widget id, when you have the full
widget name without having that parent ?

Depends on what you have.  Remember that widgets are client-side resources,
so their IDs are not meaningful if they were not created within your client.
