1. ATI Radeon VE (7000) driver problems

Hi all,

I'm having problems with a Dell Optiplex GX260 with an ATI Radeon VE (7000)
card, under RedHat 9.0.  Right now I'm using the supplied drivers (XFree
4.3.0, with 'radeon' as the driver).

Basically it boils down to:

- horrible 3d performance, though dri is being loaded.  Any 3d usage flickers
horrendously.

- The machine has a Dell 2000FP LCD panel, which runs at 1600x1200.  If I use
the DVI connector, grayscale images show a lot of color artifacts.  Basically
it appears that many pixels end up lit with pure red, green or blue instead of
gray.  I swapped screens to another computer, and the screen is fine.

The 2nd problem can be worked around by connecting with an analog cable.  The
color artifacts go away, but obviously image sharpness decreases quite a bit.

I looked at ati's website and the schneider-digital one, but they only list
drivers for the 8000 and greater chipsets.  The gatos project only seems to
have stuff for X 4.2.0.

I'd greatly appreciate if anyone has ideas on how to address this.

TIA,

f.
