Hi all,
I have a PC that is running an S3 Trio64 video card on a 6LX-A P-II/300
motherboard, and the XF86_S3 hangs when I start XFree86 3.3.2.
Originally I was running XFree86 3.3.1 on an older Pentium mother board
with no problems, but then I upgraded to the LX motherboard and got the
problem. :-(
I was told that in XFree86 3.3.2 there would be S3 support under the
XF86_SVGA driver; but this is really ALPHA and doesn't work either.
It gets a little further before*. i.e. The window manager
starts,
and the outlines of some windows or icons come up; then it hangs.
The 3.3.2 XF86_S3 server switched video modes, the screen goes blank
and that's the end. It hangs there.
This happens under both Linux and FreeBSD.
Is there anything I can do, or am I stuck with the XF86_VGA16 server?
Brian
