Why bother? Run either XF86Setup or xf86config and input the refresh
rates according to your monitor menu. It's safer. If you don't have
it, try each predefined mode from the lowest to the highest. My
monitor can do 30-64hz, but X only allows 30-55hz, for instance.

1. XFree86 Modeline for 1280x1024 at 85Hz?

 > Does anyone have a Modeline that does 1280x1024 at 85 Hz?  I've searched

ModeLine "1280x1024"  160    1280 1312 1456 1712   1024 1027 1030 1064

is fairly close, but has a horzontal refresh of 93.5 and a vertical refresh
rate of 88Hz. You could try it and use xvidtune to lower it a bit. Try
changing the HFL from 1712 to 1760. And *be careful*
