TGUI9440AGi support in XFree86 3.1.2A

Post by John Hardi » Thu, 30 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I noticed something strange after installing the beta version of X 3.1.2A.
Before, when using the modified 16 color server, it detected a max dot clock
of around 100 or so, I believe.  Now, with the SVGA server in the beta release,
it says the max is 75, which is making it difficult/impossible to get a
modeline
for 1024x768 with my monitor, using standard VESA modes, because the dot clock
required is too high. Any idea why this is and if it can be fixed?

Try setting your Clockchip line to 'tgui'

John, I posted a working XF86Config up here a few days ago - it uses
70Hz (or 87i) at 1024x768 but looks fine to me.

Try:

Modeline "1024x768"    75    1024 1048 1184 1328   768  771  777  806 -hsync -vsync

or

# 87i
ModeLine "1024x768i" 45 1024 1048 1208 1264 768 776 784 817 Interlace

good luck,

Jason

Already in an other posting was mentioned to use:

  Section "Device"
   Identifier   "TGUI9440AGi"
   VendorName   "Trident"
   BoardName    "9440AGi"
  #Chipset      "tgui9440agi"
  #Clockchip    "tgui"
  #VideoRam     1024
  #Option       "slow_dram"
  #Option       "med_dram"
   Option       "fast_dram"
  EndSection

It will detect the correct chipset etc.  Only specify your DRAM:

Option "slow_dram" for 80ns (max dot clock 75)
Option "med_dram"  for 70ns (max dot clock 80)
Option "fast_dram" for 45ns (max dot clock 108)

1. Here is Xconfig for TGUI9440AGi in XFree86 3.1.2A

Trident TGUI9440 and  XFree86 3.1.2A  ????

This XFconfig file works for me... Be carefull I will not refund blown
monitors...

Make sure this link exists:
/var/X11R6/bin/X -> /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA

because like this
/var/X11R6/bin/X -> /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_VGA16
(Like you probably have it when using the 16 Colors) things will not
work..
