Problem: ATI Mach64 Graphics Turbo Pro 2Mb (PCI)

Post by Shiu Wo » Tue, 19 Sep 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

I don't have much success getting X running. I get a blank
screen when I start X.

Machine configuration:
1) ATI PCI Mach64 Graphics Turbo Pro with 2Mb RAM
2) Linux kernel version 1.2.1
3) XFree86 version 3.1.1

When I look at /proc/pci, this graphics adaptor is not there.
Running "dmesg" reports that "unknown PCI device". "scanpci"
reports that there is an ATI device.

Others say that it may due to the RAMDAC on the board. In DOS,
DAC type is set to "internal". I have no idea what kind RAMDAC
is on this particular adaptor.

I appreciate your help and advice. Thanks.

Shiu;

I'm writing to you from my brand new box that contains

1 - ATI PCI Mach64 Graphics Turbo Pro 2MB
2 - Adaptec 2940W Wide Scsi Controller

I have seen alot of email on both of these devices. Well this
email is proof that you can get them to run.  I used
Liunx 1.3.19. I've been running for 2 weeks now with no hardware
or kernel problems.

1. ATI Mach64 Graphics Pro Turbo 2MB VRAM problem

Can not get this baby to work!!!  :(

Tried:
3.1.2  Blank screen, and my system crashes HARD, must press reset button!
3.1.2G Gets background screen and can see mouse pointer, when it is time
to show FVWM virtual screen console at top left corner, it gives
just a blank rectangle, then crashes HARD, must press reset button.

Any suggestions??

PS:  I haven't tried 3.2 I guess I should, since 3.1.2G got further than
3.1.2.. :)  Anyone know other than ftp.xfree86.org??  Since it is either
down or very slow...  And other mirrors does not have 3.2..
