Does Accelerated-X really help?

I read about this software called Accelerated-X. Does it really improve
the graphics performance? And also is it a replacement for XFree86 or does
it work on top of it?

In my case, my laptop is not supported by Xfree86 without either downloading
a hacked XF86Config and MACH 64 server or using their laptop version.  I had
done the hacked version of stuff for awhile but the Accelerated X is a bit
nicer since it allows adjusting resolution, color depth, etc.  The hacked
XF86Config file would not allow this since I was always afraid of messing
something up. The Accelerated X drivers make enlightenment and Gnome look
pretty sweet on my laptop.

1. Need Help with Accelerated-X

I'm running RH 5.0 on a DELL Inspiron 3000 233XT and I had to install
Laptop Accelerated-X in order to get support for the NeoMagic chipset,
then I had to install two update patches which added and bug-fixed the
actual support for the  NeoMagic 2160 chipset. My questions now are:

1. How do I make this my default X-server and how do I  completely
remove the Metro-X server which was originally installed on my machine.

2. I cannot figure out how to run the Accelerated-X setup utility. The
manual isn't very clear, but it mentions something about xterm. When I
try to run xterm it won't allow me to do so and gives me a message
telling me that I have to run it as an SUID other than root. I assume
this means a superuser other than root; so my next question is -

3. How do I create a non-root superuser?

4. How (after I finally get this all sorted out) do I get X to start up
automatically when I boot?

Please email me if possible.

Thanks in advance and cheers,
