startx permissions XF4.0.1

Hey all,

I just re-installed XF4.0.1 and I'm having problems with executing
startx.  I'm running Redhat 6.2 (kernel 2.4-test11) and I have a voodoo3
2000 agp card.  I selected tdfx as a module for loading, but after
attempting to run startx it complains it is unable to load the module
tdfx_drv.o.  Is this module necessary?  I installed the rpms for
tdfx_drv and I'm not sure that it won't conflict with tdfx.o.  As it
stands though, I can't run startx at all.

p.s.  I reinstalled this version of Xwindows and it had a functioning
XF86Config file prior to install (it was just missing the tdfx.o
module).

startx permissions XF4.0.1

I almost forgot...If I attempt to run as non-root, it will not even execute
startx (permissions denied message).  I checked the permission settings for
/usr/X11R6/bin and the directory permissions are:
-drwx------ root root
in addition, xinit and startx have the same permissions.  I'm bewildered
here as to how this came to be!

1. Anyone able to install xf4.0.1 on lombard?

Hello.  I'm trying to install xfree86 4.0.1 on my g3 333 powerbook
(lombard).  I've managed destroying my root filesystem three times.
Right now I have a fresh install of linuxppc2000, and I use BootX as my
boot manager.  I've partition a 50 meg apple HFS partition for yaboot in
the future.  Does anyone here have a simple step-by-step how-to on
installing xfree 4.0.1 on the lombards?

I'm hoping on getting some accelerated x on my laptop, right now x isn't
very responsive and its a bit annoying.  If I can get x accelerated with
the present xfree86 3.3.x server I have installed I'll settle with
that.  Thanks in advanced.
