Accelerated ark2000 support.

Post by Chris Evan » Tue, 21 May 1996 04:00:00

I just took at a peek at the release notes for 3.1.2E, and the only ark
chipset related change is to fix a crash occurring on startup, which I
don't get affected by.

I heard there was work going on for accelerated ark support, which I'd
very much like, so my PCI card doesn't run like some VLB effort costing
less than half the price!

I'd be very interested in helping out in one of two ways:

a) Testing any alpha code that may be materialising.
b) Given specs for the chipset (my specific card is 2000 series DS64),
and possibly some code to start working with, doing some coding myself.

Who should I contact?

Chris.

I can't really help but would like to know of any success as I have a Legend
PV64 which uses the ark2000pv along with the att22c498-13 ramdac.

Thanks

I have no answers, only question. I just bought a Diamond 2201 with a
ARK2000 is this thing supported by anything other then the VGA server?

TIA,

The SVGA server supports the chipset. 3.1.2E is your best bet as they've
finally fixed detection of RAMDACs/Clockchips etc. so that autodetection
won't crash. (3.1.2D worked OK if I specified theses things in XF86Config).

Actually when I say "supports" this is in a loose sense of the word. I
can get 1280x1024x256 (interlaced whether your monitor can take it non-laced
or not), 1024x768x256 (no problems), 1024x768x64k (accompanied with gfx
corruption during motion).

The lack of acceleration however, makes this nice card perform like a dog.

Cheers,
Chris.

1. Accelerated X problems from an Accelerated X newbie

Hi folks,

I am very much the newbie at Accelerated X (I have used MetroX for
most of my X needs)

In any case, here is my problem:

Just reinstalled my system:  RedHat 5.1

installed Accelerated X 4.1

getting the following errors

Example:

wmaker:  error in loading shared libraries
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6: undefined symbol: _Xglobal_lock

wmaker never actually starts, just dumps.  I relinked libXext.so.6 to
libXext.so.6.1 (it was linked to libXext.so.6.2).  I was hoping this
would at least allow me to start window maker, which it did.  The
problem though, was that no applications would work.  Each would give
me some other library error (and attempting to relink them did no
help).

kernel 2.0.35

This occurs with:
fvwm
enlightenment
window maker (hey i even remembered the space)

can someone please give me some hint as to what may be the issue?
This has been ongoing for most of the weekend.

thanks a ton
