Problems with Dual Headed config and Xfree86 4.0

Hello,

I'm trying to have two screens working (in xinerama) from two 3Dfx Voodoo 3000
cards (one PCI and one AGP).
With a single display it works fine, but when I try to activate the second
screen (with Server Layout parameters), only one is working (the primary).
The secondary screen looses the signal and switches off :-(
If I invert the screens in the configuration, I got the other screen to signal
off !
So, each one is working but not at the same time :-(

The server Layout is in the new syntax:

1. xfree86 4.0 dual head config (mouse)

I have been running 3.9.17 for a few months
without troubles with a dual matrox G200 setup.
I installed 4.0 and I have two desktops, but I
cannot seem to move between them. My mouse stops
at the edge of the screen and will not let me drag
over to the other monitor as it did with 3.9.17.
I cannot find any mention of a change in mouse
behavior such as this. Is there a config bit I
missed?
+xinerama is not an attractive option given that
it does not like fvwm2 and I do. It has some
serious bugs with fvwm2 in line with the release
notes' warning.
