After installing SuSE 8.1 Professional on a spare machine this evening,
I logged into Window Maker as that is my desktop of choice. At first,
as an ordinary user, I was unable to change to a different Theme or
Style. However, I then logged out and logged back in as root (not
something I would normally do, I usually log in as a normal user then su
in an xterm or wterm session to become root), and could change Theme and
Style as root. Then, after logging out and logging back in again once
more as a normal user, I was able to change Theme and Style from
henceforth.
However, the Window Maker applets are a little more troublesome. They
are installed, but don't show up in Applications | WindowMaker | applets
as they do in SuSE 7.3 Professional. I can run the applets from the
Run... command, and place them in the Dock, but right clicking in them
has no effect (I can't set wmcalclock to start when Window Maker does as
a result, as I can with SuSE 7.3 Professional) even though my mouse is
correctly configured and right clicking works correctly in every other
circumstance, including other applications within Window Maker itself (I
can right click in other Dock apps whilst they are docked, for
instance, and get the expected results).
Does anyone have any ideas? File permissions look OK for the Window
Maker applets, for example:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 268568 2002-09-10 23:14 wmcalclock
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 39780 2002-09-10 23:14 wmcdplay
I like Window Maker and would really like to get this working properly,
if possible.
TIA.
