E4000/W32P problem (can't run accelerated server)

Post by Pelle Arvinde » Sun, 23 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hi there!

The other day I exchanged my brand new Trident 9440 video card with an
E4000/W32P card (for obvious reasons...:). After having read the excellent
"VideoModes.doc"-guide I managed to configure XF86Config for my fixed-sync

As long as I use the unaccelerated server XF86_SVGA it works just fine, but if
I try to use the accelerated server XF86_W32 the monitor shuts down and I have
to power-off/power-on to boot up again (I'm just waiting for that fsck to fail
completely...:).

Is anyone using the accelerated server, and could perhaps give me some hints
about what to do (missing parameters etc)? It seems like a waste to run the
card unaccelerated when the accelerated server is available. Any help would be
much appreciated.

Kind regards,
                Pelle Arvinder

I've got a Hercules Dynamite Pro card with 2megs ram, ET4000/W32p
chipset, and the same problem... I don't have a solution, though.
Hmmm... maybe somebody should report this???

If you hear anything, let me know...

I'm using an ET4000/w32p board in a PCI 486/dx4-100 with the accelerated
server. I havent had any problems other than the occasional stripe on
the screen (in about 2 weeks of usage only 2-3 times in total) which can
be removed by forcing a screen refresh. To be honest this doesnt give me
much grief, as the behaviour of some of my Sun Solaris systems at work is
far more unstable!
As far as I can see, there seems to be some correlation in these
problems between the rev d chipsets and particular RAM DACs. My card is
a rev c (I cant remember which RAMDAC) with 2mb.

The Xconfig file is pretty much stock (as generated for my old ISA
ET4000 + tweaks) running in 1024x768, 800x600 or 640x480.
I'm running XFree 3.1 on linux 1.2.11.

Rgds.

I have only ONE trouble with my MIRO 20TD (ET4000/W32P rev C), when I
use X (startx), I have vertical lines on the screen when I move a
Window...

1. Help with XF86Config and E4000/W32p

I've been trying to get X to work with my hardware but haven't been able to get
any mode to display correctly using any server.  I was wondering is someone
with this hardware who has it working could please send it to me.

Monitor:
Goldstar GT3028

Bandwidth: 45 MHz
Hor: 31.5, 35.2, 35.5
Ver: 56, 60, 70, 87

Video Card:
Cardex Challenger Pro with ET4000/W32p_rev_d
VideoRAM 2MB
(What other settings should I have?)

Please specify if the W32 accelerated server was used.

Thanks.
