I'm trying to get X to run on a new HP Pavilion N5430. I installed RH
7.1, and since that comes with XFree 4.0.3, which does not support the
Trident *blade XP, I downloaded 4.1.0 from xfree86.org. I used a
XF86Config-4 file that was posted on the Xpert list by another N5430
user (who uses SuSE, not RH).
This is not working properly. When I run X -configure, I get tons of
errors about unresolved symbols; when I run X, I get the familiar mesh
background, but it is offset quite a bit to the bottom and right, it is
unsteady, and the framebuffer appears to be mapped incorrectly (the
display appears to consist of repeated vertical bands; if you can get
the cursor to appear, it is replicated multiple times across the width
of the screen).
I don't know how to proceed from here... Has anybody else managed to get
XFree 4.1.0 working with RH 7.1 on this machine?
I'm not attaching my config and log files because they are a bit large,
but you can view them using these links:
