Weird xfree86 bug

Weird xfree86 bug

Post by Rupert War » Fri, 06 Oct 2000 04:00:00

I have an image-processing application for X windows
which has been working fine for years on the sun
workstations at work. I've recently got it running
on 2 linux boxes at home, so that it now ports
find between the following machines:

home notebook:  linux, xfree86, 24 bit
home desktop:   linux, xfree86, 8 bit
work sun:       solaris, X11, 8 and 24 bit

Now, apparently only since I recently made changes
to allow 24 bit displays, on both the linux machines
I'm getting a (program) crash when the xserver detects
a "left mouse button + control key" event (apparently
before it gets to my callback function). I can't
find any other combinations of keys/buttons that
do this, so I've got round it for now by just
switching the relevant functions to "right+control"
or "left+shift" (and remembering not to press the
left button when control is held down). On the sun
there's no such problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? It's not too much
of a problem right now because I only use the
linux boxes for development. But we might want
to get people using the prog under linux at work
at some point in the future so it;d be good to get
it fixed.

I'll be doing some more tests - but I thought it
worth posting here too in case it strikes a chord
with someone.

regards,

Rupe.

1. xfree86 bug? (or java bug?)

I have a java applet that can draw outside of its own rectangle.
Unfortunately, the lines keep on going out of the application's frame!
(Navigator 3.0)  I've posted the details (and a screenshot) here:

http://xxx.screaming.org/

Can somebody tell me if X11R6 should be responsible for clipping out of
an application's bounds?
