 I cannot make Linux, or msdog, recognize more than 16 megs on a machine with 64.

The memory is recognized at startup tests.

Any hint grateful accepted.

cd to /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/kernel/
edit the file setup.c
change the line memory_end = (1<<20) + (EXT_MEM_K<<10);
to memory_end = NMB*1024*1024; if you have more than
16MB of memory; (where NMB is the number of megabytes you have, e.g. you the
line could be memory_end = 32*1024*1024;)
