NewCom 33.6 ifxC Modem in Linux

Hi!
I recently bought the referred modem and althouth it works fine in
Windows & DOS i can't get it to work in Linux.

The modem is ISA PnP and constantly sets itself to COM3 (as i can
communicate through COM3 i assume that).

I use setserial to set spd_vhi & stty to set RTS/CTS (the modem has it
set for default). /dev/modem is set for the correct port (/dev/cua2)...

I run Minicom. First it takes ages to show the INITSTRING and the OK and
then when i try to connect to my ISP it says "CONNECT 115200" but is
slow as hell anyway (seems 2400baud or worse).

Please help. This is way to annoying.

This problem never ocurred with my 14.4 NonPnP ... set for the same
port.

By email if poss.

1. Motorola Modem Surfr 33.6 External Modem

"Motorola Modem Surfr 33.6 External Modem only $49" (Canadian $) says
the newspaper advertisement.  Is there anything unusual about this
Motorola modem that would prevent its use on my Debian GNU/Linux 386sx
system.  I have a 16550A serial port.
